4-H & Scratch

4-H does that? Not only does 4-H offer the Computer & Programming project but we have lots of resources to get you started.

Some of you might know already but I taught 5th & 6th science before I came back to Extension. Coding with Scratch was one of my favorite parts of the job. With that being said I'm just gonna start from the beginning. Coding or computer programming is when we write a set of instructions for a computer or other device to follow. We often think of computers, phones, and even watches as being smart but they don't know anything that hasn't been coded by a human. This set of instructions we make is called an algorithm which is just a fancy word for a very specific set of instructions.

Scratch has lots of fun projects you can do and the instructions to go with them. You may wonder how this 4-H project can be shown at the fair, well let's see! Of course, a poster, print your code and screenshots of your creation and tell us about what you have made. If the poster thing isn't for you to make a book (folder/binder) that shows your code or just make a guide teaching others how to code using Scratch.

I have created a Scratch class you can join and we can work on projects together. Click here to join the class so you see what other 4-Hers are making!! IF you don't have internet at home like me, I have flash drives that will allow you to work on Scratch offline just let me know if you would like one and we can figure out the best way to get it to you!

This is what you will see when signing up and get started.

Have fun and if you have questions about scratch call the SFC extension office and I would be happy to help! (573) 756-4539

    1. Absolutely! The class is fun because you can see what other 4-Hers are working on but if members already have an account they can work on a project for the fair with that account.
